Transitions

These songs are great for transitions in the classroom. I say things like, "When this song is over, you should have ____ done and ____ out on your desk. Planets

Theme: Planets. Inspiration: "Drops of Jupiter" by Train and Holst's Planets. I purposefully placed the songs in this order; Classical piece, then one by a modern artist (if available). Earth wasn't included because The Planets has a loose basis in astrology, and in the practice of astrology, the reference point is Earth, so it is not included in the mapping. Pluto is also not included because it was not discovered until 1930, which is after Gustov Holst wrote the seven-movement orchestral suite.

"Planet Earth" - Duran Duran Decade: Greatest Hits
"Mars, The Bringer of War" - James Levine: Chicago Symphony Orchestra Holst: The Planets
"Captain Crash and the Beauty Queen from Mars" - Bon Jovi Crush
"Venus, The Bringer of Peace" - James Levine: Chicago Symphony Orchestra Holst: The Planets
"Venus" - Bananarama '80s Dance Gold
"Mercury, The Winged Messenger" - James Levine: Chicago Symphony Orchestra Holst: The Planets
"Mercury" - Counting Crows Recovering the Satellites
"Jupiter, The Bringer of Jollity" - James Levine: Chicago Symphony Orchestra Holst: The Planets
"Drops of Jupiter" - Train Drops of Jupiter
"Saturn, The Bringer of Old Age" - James Levine: Chicago Symphony Orchestra Holst: The Planets
"Saturn" - Skillet Skillet
"Uranus, The Magician" - James Levine: Chicago Symphony Orchestra Holst: The Planets
"Neptune, The Mystic" - James Levine: Chicago Symphony Orchestra Holst: The Planets

Indiana University Marching Hundred -"I.U. March to the Stadium" from College Fight Songs - Indiana Hoosiers - EP. iTunes has many of the major NCAA Division I schools fight songs EPs, many with drum cadences. Bob Dylan - "Country Pie", "Lay Lady Lay", and "Nashville Skyline Rag" from Nashville Skyline.
Songs You'll Love is a compilation from Coffee Shop Girl Records. It features award-winning female artists such as Tiana Star, Femke, Juliet Lee, Adrina Thorpe, and Melinda Ortner. Search for Coffee Shop Girl Records and you may still be able to download the free album.

Britt Nicole - The Lost Get Found album. This album totally blew away my expectations. Nicole hits on a variety of genres and has very catchy tunes.
La Roux - selt-titled album. Best known for her song "Bulletproof".
OneRepublic - Waking Up album. A great Colorado band that has made international superstars of themselves.

Raul Midón - Entire A World Within a World album. I was first introduced to this artist via a Starbucks freebie "Pick Somebody Up" and decided to sample the entire album, and evetually loving the sound and picking up the entire album.
MercyMe - Complete The Generous Mr. Lovewell release. Once again, MercyMe pulls out all the stops and produces an amazingly beautiful album.
Thousand-Foot Krutch - Welcome to the Masquerade album.
Guster - "Bad Bad World" from the Easy Wonderful album. A freebie from either Starbucks or iTunes.
Ke$ha - Complete Animal album. I'm still not sure about my opinion of this artist. Her mind and lyrics are sometimes questionable.

O.A.R. - Rain or Shine box set (4 disc set). Recorded on June 18 and 19, 2009 at Charter One Pavilion in Chicago, Illinois. Over 4 hours of music are on O.A.R.'s 10th album and 4th live release.
Weird Al Yankovic - Entire Straight Outta Lynwood. Features tracks such as "White and Nerdy", "Confessions Part III", and "Canadian Idiot".
Rascal Flatts - Complete Nothing Like This album. Rascal Flatts still has that distinct sound and by no means are they are a downhill slide.
James Levine - The Chicago Symphony Orchestra performs Gustov Holst's The Planets. I saw this performed live by another symphony orchestra with a 4th class of mine and it was awesome. Even these 10 and 11 year olds enjoyed it!
The Black Keys - "Tighten Up" and "Everlasting Light" from their album Brothers.
Maroon 5 - Complete Hands All Over album.
Muse - "Uprising" from The Resistance.
That's a wrap for new music. Stay tuned for more blogging; I plan to keep going with the playlists that are ever-evolving and disappearing (on purpose).
